Almost all trading platforms are cloud based. This means they keep your API keys on their servers and have the ability to access them anytime. What crypto transactions are taxable?
This can vary from country to country. Generally a taxable event occurs when you sell crypto for fiat, trade crypto for crypto, spend crypto on goods and/or services, receive crypto as income (e.g. through mining or airdrops, hard forks, selling goods and/or services for crypto, etc.). Please bear in mind that this is not an exhaustive list.

Short term vs long term gains explained.
In some countries the length of time you have held onto an asset affects how it is classified for tax purposes. Long-term tends to be categorized as capital gains and usually has a lower tax rate than short-term, which is taxed as income.

You will have the option to manually import/modify your cost basis.
What if I bought crypto from an obscure source that isn't available through Atani?
If Atani is integrated with the exchange you bought the coin from, we will automatically track the transaction. For tokens purchased from small or obscure sources, you can upload your transactions through CSV import or manually introduce the transaction.
What if I have net capital losses for the year?
You still have to declare your transactions. Every country has different legislation, but generally losses can be carried forward to future tax years to offset gains.
Do I need to report my crypto balance if I use international exchanges?
Every country has different legislation, but generally you have to file an additional form if you keep assets on foreign exchanges. For example in the US, you need to file the FBAR with the U.S. Department of Treasury if you ever exceed $10,000 total in foreign exchange accounts at any time of the year. This may apply to you as cryptocurrency exchanges are based all around the world.

Connections: API & CSV
What are API keys?
An API is what allows you to access third-party services (such as exchanges) through the Atani Platform. Your API keys authenticate you with these providers. We use APIs offered by exchanges to gather data and place trades. For markets charting only, we don't require any API keys from our users. However to check your balances, place trades and calculate your taxes, Atani requires you to input your API keys to authenticate requests.
Can I trust Atani with my API Keys?
The best part is, you don't have to! Atani is fully non-custodial, meaning that we can't access your APIs or funds. Why? Because the API Key is encrypted on your device and you're connected directly to the exchange.
How do I connect my APIs?
A "Help" section will be available on each exchange to support you. 1) To obtain your API keys log in to your exchange account, the API Settings will generally be available on the main menu. 2) You'll then have to set the permissions - the level of operability that the API key will have (and therefore the functionality that is available to you through Atani). "View" will allow you to see your balance and orders from Atani, but will not allow you to trade. The "Trade" permission will allow you to transact on that exchange through Atani. 3) You can then click "Create API Key". Copy and paste the API Key and API Secret Key into Atani.
Which methods can I use to upload my data to Atani?
You can upload your data through APIs. Soon CSV and manually importing will be available.
I already have an API for one of my exchanges, can I use the same one for Atani?
Please create a new API exclusively for Atani. This will avoid any connection issues that can arise and increase your security.

Something's Not Working
I can't log in to my account.
Recover your password and log in. If the issue persists, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
My portfolio or accounts are missing assets / orders.
If your connected accounts have balances or open orders, these are automatically updated when there's a change. There may be cases where new deposits / orders may not be immediately reflected, this will usually resolve itself within minutes. Sometimes logging out and signing back in can expedite this sync process. Also, please check if the API key is still valid and you have enabled the necessary permissions. Please note - balances with values under $0.01 USD might be hidden because they are usually not tradeable and clutter the user experience.
I would like to report a bug.
Please contact us at email@example.com. Thanks for your help! We're working hard to make Atani bug-free.
